How the What Dog Am I Quiz Works

Each dog breed listed here has the exact same characteristics measured against them: amount of energy, social nature, willingness to follow commands, grooming needs, size, and how happy they are living in an urban apartment versus having acreage to roam. As such, your responses are used to generate a score across these characteristics as well. The quiz then matches the breeds with the most similar scores to yours.

For example, if you wake up early every day, love people and follow all rules, you may land close to a Labrador Retriever or a Golden Retriever. On the other hand, if you are very quiet and like being by yourself, do not enjoy going to parties and would rather stay at home alone, there is a good chance you could be either a Shiba Inu or a Chow Chow.

What Your Dog Breed Says About You

Retrievers and Doodles

You’re friendly, open-hearted, and positive. When others want encouragement or someone to help them through a tough spot, it’s likely to be YOU they turn to. Doodle results also tend to show an inclination toward being clever and humorous, with a desire to look good.

Herding breeds

If you received either Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, or a Shepherd as your result; odds are high that you’re a thinker/doer. You most likely have a “to-do” list going on at some point in your day, have a back-up plan if things don’t work out the first time, and sometimes find yourself getting restless and needing to move.

Toy breeds

When toy breeds pop up as your results, this is often indicative of people having large personality traits within small packages, valuing comfort and those close to them.

Hounds

The Curious/Independent/Distracted By Things That Interest Me category fits best with individuals doing things their own way and generally succeeding while doing so. Your way doesn’t always work, but it works out more often than not.

Working breeds and giants

Steady, loyal and protective. People tend to feel safe when they are near you. You’re not in a rush about anything, however, when you decide to commit to something, you’ll see it through.

Terriers

Feisty, funny, fearless — these words could describe you. It doesn’t matter whether it was smart of you to take on the challenge you did — you took it on anyway.

Is This Quiz Telling Me Which Dog to Get?

Not quite. This quiz matches personality, which is great fun but not the same as lifestyle fit. The dog that’s “most like you” isn’t always the dog that suits your home, schedule or budget. A high-energy person who works 10-hour days might match a Border Collie on personality, but the dog would be miserable home alone.
